My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

My DD was told her Nat 5 marks by the school last year. But they had to go and ask for it .

I believe that the school can ask for an arithmetic check of the marking for Nat 5, but only if the pupil has got more than 2 grades below predicted . By grades they mean the number and not the letter .

Disclaimer - I'm not a teacher , just going by what happens at our kids school

Groovee · 08/05/2016 12:04

Thanks Kr1stina. Dd may ask when she goes back.

Lidlfix · 08/05/2016 13:39

Schools are given component marks from SQA. Policy on giving these out is up to school. My school ask for a written request from parents as it is time consuming to deal with requests. Can be a double edged sword though if a candidate is close to grade boundaries. But it can helpful if, for example, a young person is considering doing a Creative Writing degree rather than English Lit as their Folio could confirm whether they excelled in that specialism .

YY, I think the school use it too when advising if a pupil can go on to higher in a subject.

At the parents info evening about S5 subject choices , the school gave us lots of facts and figures about the higher grades compared to the int 2 results . Eg of all the kids who got an A1 at intermediate 2 maths, 96% passed higher maths. But only 57% got an A.

I presume they will have figures soon for the National 5 compared to the revised highers . It was quite sobering , but I guess they just want the kids to be realistic about what grades they are likely to get.

Thanks, very helpful to know.

Went to MIL's as we're without a washing machine and came back to a revision group in the garden! Thing is only 2 of the, were studying biology. Not sure if the others came to be social or help. Will be glad when tomorrow is over.

Kr1stina · 09/05/2016 06:31

Good luck to everyone sitting biology today . Not that I'm up early worrying .......

Groovee · 09/05/2016 06:38

Hoping everyone is calm for biology.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/05/2016 07:17

Yes, good luck from me too.

YoScience · 09/05/2016 07:19

Good luck everyone doing biology! Smile

prettybird · 09/05/2016 07:41

Good luck for biology.

After a weekend off, I'm expecting that ds will get his head down again, not just for Maths this week but for French next week. Only complication is that he got another exercise-induced migraine yesterday after rugby training. Hmm

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/05/2016 07:58

Oh dear Sad Ds1was in the room we set aside for study a couple of times over the weekend but I'm not sure how much he was actually doing as he doesn't think he needs to do any for engineering or maths Hmm

Groovee · 09/05/2016 08:24

Oh pretty bird hope he feels better soon x

weegiemum · 09/05/2016 08:51

Good luck for Biology, everyone!
prettybird hope ds feels better soon.

Dd1 has gone to school! The maths teacher is going to be available this afternoon so she's gone in with her siblings, to mooch about with her boyfriend study in the library this morning.

DD is off to biology , then she's staying in school because her favourite maths teacher is doing a last minute revision session this afternoon . At 5th year she's still more bothered about

(a) which teacher it is
( b) are her friends going

Than the fact that she needs an A and maths and biology to do the course she wants Hmm

unlucky83 · 09/05/2016 09:19

DD1 has gone into school again ...she has friends doing Biology - she isn't - I am guessing she now going to be revising biology this morning ...Sad
She still hasn't finished the work she was supposed to do ...I've told her to go and see the teacher and be honest - apparently she has told them she has done it and forgot to bring it in - but now realises she doesn't know how to answer a couple of the questions ... don't know how that's going to work out.
She really does need to revise maths (one of her weakest subjects)
Good Luck to everyone doing biology today!
And I hope your DS feels better soon Prettybird - if he can't do the exam it might not be the end of the world.
One of DDs friends was sick on Thursday for the English - could have been nerves but seems like a bug - they threw up on the way in and had to go out during the exam and be sick again -the teachers sent them home. And apparently they were sick on the way home and again that evening.
Apparently it will be fine - they can still pass - they will use the prelim results (in which they got a top A), classwork and coursework to determine the grade. But the DC is worried because they will also look at the first 30 min before they had to go to throw up again...and apparently they have no idea what they wrote, just focussed on not being sick in hall in front of everyone SadSadSad

Kr1stina · 09/05/2016 09:34

Yup, there's a vomiting bug going around apparently. My friends DD was throwing up all day yesterday and she has Nat 5 biology this afternoon. She's planning to go in for it , although they have phoned the school and the GP.

prettybird · 09/05/2016 10:10

Ds will be fine by Thursday. He has already appeared today Shock and seems a bit brighter.

Maths is one of his strongest subjects so he's not concerned about that. French he doesn't care about even though I do.

He's got a trial for representational U17 rugby two days after his exams finish so he won't give up on his rugby training - but if he listened to us not just about hydrating properly but also about eating properly and taking ibuprofen beforehand and the migraine tablets the GP prescribed sooner, then I'd be more sympathetic happier. Hmm

Groovee · 09/05/2016 11:32

A teenager listen WinkGrin

Dd is doing some last minute revision.

I have stuffed mushrooms in the oven with a salad for lunch.

My washing machine is due to arrive soon too.

Kr1stina · 09/05/2016 12:49

Like what do you know pretty bird Grin

H biology was apparently much easier that the prelim < helpful >

YoScience · 09/05/2016 12:58

DD has no exams today, but 2 tomorrow, Graphics and Italian.

I'm at work and she is at home, I've text her twice this morning to see how she is getting in with studying, but both times she has been on a break!!! Hmm

She also has Maths and Music this week, so pretty full on. Wish she would do a bit more!!

Glad to hear Higher Biology wasn't too bad!

Groovee · 09/05/2016 13:02

Hoping the Nat5 is ok X

prettybird · 09/05/2016 13:50

Ds has appeared again. He says he's still not feeling right and is glad he's not doing Biology today Wink

He says he's not up for much studying at the moment - fortunately he's confident about Maths Smile

Groovee · 09/05/2016 14:59

Dd left the biology exam after an hour and 20 mins! She said it was so much easier than the prelim! She's confident of a B.

prettybird · 09/05/2016 15:05

That's good news. Smile

weegiemum · 09/05/2016 16:28

Dd1 went into school this morning but is home and not going in tomorrow as she didn't get much done today. Could have too her that Hmm
