Walking over the Forth Road Bridge

Can anyone tell me the best place to park to walk over the Forth Road Bridge? I thought about South Queensferry but that's quite far from the bridge. Tia

Change of plan. It's pissing down.

For future reference, there's a 'visitor centre' on the South Queensferry side with a big car park, just before you go onto the bridge. Or park down in Echline under the bridge and walk up the steps.

I put visitor centre in quotes because it's only open to groups, but there's loads of parking there.

You really want a day with no wind though.

You couldn't pay me enough money to get me to do that! I even hate driving over the bugger...

A friend of mine jumped of it. I don't even like seeing it now.

We just park at the Queensferry Hotel on the north side of the bridge and walk from there. It's always freezing cold once you get out on the bridge though!

The footpath on the west side (with a view of the new bridge ) is only open occasionally, it might be on Saturdays. The other side is always open.

How long does it take? I'd love to do that. On a sunny day with no wind, anyway...

I've only ever cycled so not sure - maybe about 40 mins to get halfway? Or even half an hour? I can cycle halfway in 10 mins.

We usually just walk halfway and then walk back, I think it takes about 30-40 minutes to get to the middle (that's large family group with many children dragging their feet, so if you're walking at brisk adult pace should be quicker).

We park on the Fife side at the car park at Queensferry Lodge or whatever it's called these days. We ordered one of those lovelock things whilst completely smashed one night and two years later we still haven't been back over the bridge to put the bloody thing on. I doubt there's any space left now!
