DS is currently in year 1, and he was born at the end of August. If we moved to Scotland now, does anyone know which primary class he would go into?

What year was he born?

Twooter · 15/03/2016 22:19

August 2010 are in P1. If he's August 2011 he'd be in preschool

HeffalumpHistory · 15/03/2016 22:20

So he's 5? Turning 6 this Aug?
He would be in Primary 1, starting primary 2 after summer hols (Scotland don't have reception class)

Dd is 6 in September. She is in primary one. She will be in primary two after the summer.

AStreetcarNamedBob · 15/03/2016 22:24

He would be currently in P1. The oldest child in the year would have turned 5 in March 2015, then your DS turned 5 in August 2015 and the youngest child turned 5 in February 2016.

So at the moment in England he's the youngest in Year 1, in Scotland he's in the same year (year 1) but he's now in the middle of the age range.

Haudyerwheesht · 15/03/2016 22:26

But Bob he'll have been at school since sept 2014 in England. (Reception the. y1) so he will have had an extra year at school than he would've had in Scotland. Regardless he'll go into primary 2 after summer.

SpaceKablooie · 15/03/2016 22:27

Yes, he was born in August 2010.

So he'd go from year 1 to primary 1 then Smile, that would be great.

Please can I ask the same question?

DS is in year 2 in England, born in December.
DD is in reception, born in May.

What years would they be in if we moved now??

DS is currently one of the oldest in his year - would he become one of the youngest? Likewise DD is one of the younger ones, would she be one of the older ones?

Thanks :)

What years were they born? But yes, December birthdays are towards the youngest in the year and May would be one of the older children as the cut off date is the end of February rather than August

Your reception child would start P1 in August - no reception year so would get a nursery allocation.

Your Year 2 would currently be P3 and move into P4 in August. However, with a December birthday and moving into a different school system you would be afforded a bit of leeway and you may get the choice of P2 into P3 in August instead. My DSs friend was initially placed in my younger sons class at P5 but then moved up to my elder sons class in P7 so that he ended up going to High School with the proper age group and he was doing well academically and socially and he already had a friend in the class (my DS1) courtesy of his friendship with my DS2.
