Anyone in Hawick (or local towns?)

I'm looking to move to Hawick later in the year to social housing, but as I don't know the area very well at all could realise use any insider tips anyone has in terms of "not this street" type thing. :) Whether it be dodgy neighbours/this street floods/burglaries - it would help me enormously.

Is there any reason why you want to be in Hawick? We're in Gala, and it's definitely got more going for it - Hawick always seems to me as if it's dying on it's feet a bit.

Well one of my oldest friends is in Innerleithen and she felt that Gala would be too "busy" and big for me - I need quiet. :)

Sorry, I know Gala is far from Glasgow, I just don't cope well in crowds and big towns. I currently live in the middle of nowhere and she thought Hawick might be a good compromise.

Hawick is known to be a bit dire but if it's social housing I do t think your going to get much choice. Melrose, Gala (not Langlee though), Earlston etc are much nicer and better schools.
