Named Person / State Guardians

cdtaylornats · 29/01/2016 11:00

That started off well

A teacher appointed one of Scotland’s first “state guardians” faces a lifetime ban from working with children.

Dayna Dickson-Boath was yesterday struck off the teaching register for sharing fantasies about abusing youngsters.

It's hard to see how this got passed.

I do think schools should be obliged to track children who don't go/ move to another school or inform someone if the DCs are being home educated.

I do think teachers should inform SS if there is any signs of bad care such as acute hunger, bruises.

But this is utterly Maaaaaaaad. The power must have gone to their heads brains!

peggyundercrackers · 27/03/2016 12:33

I wonder if anyone will be told officially from the school or HV that their child has a state guardian? do they need to tell you? do they need to tell you all the information you give them will be recorded and shared?

I do think schools should be obliged to track children who don't go/ move to another school or inform someone if the DCs are being home educated.

schools do keep a track of who attends, you will find your local authority tracks who is home educated already and probably have a team of people who deal with it as per the 2007 publication from Scottish Government produced called Education at Home Guidance.

HazyMazy · 27/03/2016 13:00

Oh, thanks, I stand corrected.

SNP are keen to stay in Europe - I can't help thinking any European country hearing about this type of supervision of all children would have the heebie jeebies (certain children being removed from their families during the war) and think we were wanting to make a Communist state!!

Anyway, I need to move on as thinking about this is raising my blood pressure!

Looks like the SNP PR machine has started a retaliatory thread on this topic. Are we really supposed to all lap up this nonsense?!?

OneMagnumisneverenough · 28/03/2016 20:11

DH was I think quoting Sam Harris (who was talking about an entirely different subject :o ) and said that listening to NS talk was like a word salad, loads of words and phrases tossed about till they don't make any sense and are tasteless and hard to swallow...

Maybe if she spent less time modeling herself on the fictional character in Borgen and more time actually reading what it is that is being foisted on us she would be a bit more palatable.

OccamsRazorSharpner · 28/03/2016 20:54

I have had people tell me they like her and voted because she is a good speaker but when I ask about her politics they don't know much about them. That's really upsetting since it is policy that matters. I am very worried that Scotland is sleep walking away from democracy.

peggyundercrackers · 28/03/2016 21:01

I know a couple of people who know her, NS, and both say she is very clever but they they wouldn't vote for her if she was the last person on the planet.

I don't think she's a bad speaker but she doesn't have a touch on Alec - he was a good speaker and had charm to go with it but NS is just wooden and clinical.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 28/03/2016 21:13

I don't think she is a good speaker as there is no substance to her. I'm also not convinced she is that bright either - there doesn't seem to be a lot going on behind those eyes - she has a certain sleekitness though so I guess that is cleverness of a sort. I wouldn't spit on her of she was on fire.

OccamsRazorSharpner · 28/03/2016 22:04

I would put out any burning body regardless of politics but see this constant othering and self serving sneakiness - that chills my veins. I want children to be taught to question policy and value diversity lest we forget. That option has been actively blocked by the current government.

This quote is from a random "what is fascism" google search link and pretty much sums up the state of things in Scotland right now, we need to wise up.

"One element shared by all fascist movements, racialist or not, is the apparent lack of consistent political principle behind the ideology_political opportunism in the most basic sense. One virtually unique aspect of fascism is its ruthless drive to attain and hold state power. On that road to power, fascists are willing to abandon any principle to adopt an issue more in vogue and more likely to gain converts."

OneMagnumisneverenough · 28/03/2016 22:12

Spot on Occams. I still wouldn't put out the fire though.

OccamsRazorSharpner · 28/03/2016 22:21

cdtaylornats · 28/03/2016 22:21

Everyone has there own moral standard, if I saw one of the SNP leaders being swept out to sea I wouldn't hesitate to contact the coastguard. I would even use a first class stamp.

peggyundercrackers · 30/03/2016 18:42

Scary stuff these videos - not allowed to hang up the phone? Then goes on to use words he doesn't know the meaning of? Erm... Wtf!

I wonder if children 1st have been given any funding from SNP.

HazyMazy · 31/03/2016 12:17

Yes, many of the youtube examples are pretty scary. Constant points being raised and repeated answers ignoring the points and blindly assuring everyone that the legislation is fine.
I've just thought of another thing the SNPs did - reducing the amount of alcohol that can be drunk when driving to such a low level that people are scared to eat a liquer chocolate or use a mouthwash.

We are def on the way to a police state.

HazyMazy · 31/03/2016 12:43

Here is a link to the outcome signifiers which the named person will be ticking or not as they deem fit. There is no way many of these can be answered without a detailed knowledge of the child's home life/ friends, neighbours of the family, the social life of the family, the ease of family relationships.

www.gov.scot/Topics/People/Young-People/gettingitright/background/wellbeing/printable-guide

Then there are the headings of other lists of requirements on the left.

HazyMazy · 31/03/2016 12:46

I can see that SNP want to improve children's lives. I am very suspicious that all the public services who will be working on this are totally behind it. There must have been/be money proffered to the SS and even possibly the Charities, for them to be so in favour.
If they were supposed to provide this cover with their existing staff and finances they'd be complaining. Does it mean a much weightier SS and thus drain on our taxes for a relatively small number of targeted children. Totally a hammer to crack a nut.

HazyMazy · 31/03/2016 12:49

You can give children all the rights in the world but you can't take away the human rights of the parents good or bad.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 31/03/2016 12:55

well I think we can all see that we would fail straight away under safety as we are not allowed to have any avoidable dangers within the house. I'm not sure whether we could decide that having knives/cleaning products/choking hazards etc etc etc is unavoidable? What about if I have a bit of loose carpet or no locks on an upstairs window or matches or indeed access to the internet without proper filters applied? Those would all be avoidable so the named person could take action against me if they knew about them/wanted to. What about if I didn't have smoke alarms or carbon monoxide alarms?

I'm not saying that the requirements themselves aren't sensible (though I've not read all the way through them) but presumably the expectation isn't that the named person is meant to check all that for each child? What about of a child is injured in an accident in their home through something avoidable? Is the named person going to be prosecuted for not identifying the danger?

cdtaylornats · 31/03/2016 13:43

OneMagnum how about living in a bad area?

Hazy I don't think a police state is much to worry about given the fuck up that is Police Scotland

OneMagnumisneverenough · 31/03/2016 13:50

True cd- maybe that would be a way for people to get out of bad areas? Appeal to their named person that their environment is putting their child at risk and the NP had to deal with the council to have them rehoused? Not sure how it would work with private rental. It could happen a lot as people maybe want their child away from "troublemakers" and want a fresh start in a nice are with a decent school - minefield or what? And then if the NP does nothing and child gets involved in drugs and/or other dangerous behaviours will they be liable? What if a child gets pregnant will the NP be liable for the baby's upbringing?

glasg0wmum · 03/04/2016 11:27

I've signed the petition.

I am not a SNP fan in any way, shape or form and this legislation really takes the biscuit. How DARE they appoint my children's health visitor or head teacher to have more say in their upbringing than we do?? Completely mental.

I am all for pushing resources towards supporting parents who are struggling or need additional support for whatever reason. But leave the rest of us the hell alone to get on with it.

It's very telling that our last two First Ministers of the SNP persuasion are not parents. They haven't a bloody clue.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/04/2016 11:31

I think it is the assumption that we are all too stupid to run our own lives that annoys me the most.

www.scotsman.com/news/revealed-what-can-happen-when-a-named-person-reports-on-your-children-1-4089077

It is about time the Scotsman started reporting on this, they completely brushed the whole passing of the Act under the carpet at the time.
