Crieff Hydro v Peebles Hydro

I'd like to take DP & kids away for the weekend at the end of the month.

Ideally, it would be Crieff Hydro, but on checking prices it would be £230 per night Confused

I noticed that Peebles Hydro has been bought over by the same owners as Crieff. Plus they have a sale on so it's way cheaper.

Has anyone been to both & could help me decide if the extra money for Crieff is worth it? Or what Peebles is like? Cheers!

Peebles is very down at heel whereas Crieff is swish. Have they done any of Peebles up yet? We were at both last year. Actually had a better time at Peebles as it was quiet, went to Crieff in the summer hols last year and queues everywhere, really slow service. Is it a big difference in price?

Just looked at Peebles website, their signature rooms look like the general ones at Crieff. Yes it's a lot isn't it. Remember to factor in the six hours free childcare a day which adds up. Plus Crieff has more activities and free cinema. Both are great fun, kids will love it.

Thanks for the fast responses!

Crieff Hydro would be £230, Peebles would be £164. So quite a difference.
We've been to Crieff about 10 times & love it, especially the free childcare!!

It's just for 1 night, so could survive without the childcare.

If you've done Crieff a lot then peebles might be a nice change? Never stayed in the Hydro but have stayed in the Macdonald hotel nearby. My DH is from the area so we know it well.

The food at the Crieff Hydro usually puts me off as it's pretty shit tbh. Have you thought about/looked at the Hilton Coylumbridge OP?

SauvignonPlonker · 09/01/2016 07:49

We're in Edinburgh & it's only for 1 night, so Coylumbridge is a bit far. Had thought about Auchrannie but decided against for same reason.

There seem to be a lot of good deals on just now so hopefully something will come up.

Crieff Hydro keeps advertising sale prices on fb have you checked then? I was at Crieff in November loved it but have never been to Peebles to compare it

SauvignonPlonker · 09/01/2016 08:20

Unfortunately the sale prices are best during the week, and it's the weekend we need to go (DS is at school so no cheap mid-week deals for us).

I keep checking the website & hoping the prices will come down nearer the time. But I don't think they discount, or if they do it's literally the last minute.

Have you checked the MacDonald at cardrona? If it's just one night then they have a pool and you are handy for a wander round pebbles and right across the road from the mountain bike place and there are nice walks up there or take a wee trip down to innerleithen fir ice cream and some touristy stuff.

Here's another one to try, Duchally which is very near Gleneagles so probably about 1h 15min from Edinburgh. There's a small pool, sauna, hot tub etc.

You could always try the Murraypark Hotel in Crieff, it's owned by the hydro and you get full use of the facilities. I love the food there and it's quieter at nights so you get a better sleep.
