Nat 5 maths exam results

Our DS' year seems to have done very poorly in Nat 5 maths, with a high overall failure rate.

We're not sure if this is reflected across the country, or if it is an issue particular to our school, where there have been ongoing issues with the maths department.

It would be really useful to get some feedback on this if anyone can help.

My DD did Nat 5 maths last year and most of the year failed the prelim exam, I asked another parent who's dd attended another high school and she said the same. In the actual exam my dd got a C even tho according to parents night she was bang on course for a much higher grade.

DS claims that 45% of the pupils who sat nat 5 maths in his year group (state school in a middle class suburb) got an A. He got an A but isn't in the top set of higher maths classes - it is full of pupils who got 85% +

DD got an A for the prelim and was predicted at an A. She got As in every other subject but got a C for Maths. One of her friends was exactly the some. She does know some people who got As though.

My DCs school (state - qualifies for all Focus West widening university access programs) results for national 5 maths were similar to last year.

However only 45% of the year group sit national 5 maths and results were approximately one third A/B/C. All but a couple of the top maths set (and a few from the second set) got an A.
