Renting in Fife? Talk to me about your letting agent

I might end up letting out my flat for two years while I live away. But the lettings industry seems to have a reputation right up there with secondhand car sales.

I hope it's just a case of avoiding bad apples. ----

I'd want one who was decent to tenants, diligent with maintenance, and didn't try to relieve them of cash every time they sneezed. Decent to landlord also desirable...

What have your agents been like and who would you use again if you had a choice?

I'be only rented once in Fife and that was through a St andrews solicitors, Rollo Davidson. I don't know if they still exist, all the solicitors seem to have merged a lot. They were fine to us as tenants. I have heard through the students at work that Pagan Osbourne are a bunch of B* though I personally have never had any dealings with them. The house next door to us is rented through Martins and co. The owners live down south and MartinsCo seem to deal with everything. The tenants are long term, there has been 3 different families in the last 5 years.
Hope the renting goes well

Thanks.

Yes, would be too far away to do anything in person.

When I rented, it was through an agency called Click-Let, who also cover Fife. I thought they were pretty fair, and I say that as a tenant.

Ooh, thank you. That's just the sort of thing I want to know.

Extra Mile Letting is very good. Efficient and easy to deal with.

AFrugalSwain · 23/08/2015 10:07

Excellent, Angus. Do you mind saying whether that was as tenant or landlord?

I highly recommend Homes in Focus (Cowdenbeath) They've treated us extremely fairly and ethically, are efficient and friendly to boot.

lutrinae · 24/08/2015 13:13

(p.s. I am a tenant)

AngusAndElspethsThistleWhistle · 25/08/2015 13:49

A landlord. EML have looked after my flat since 2009 and we were abroad for two years. We've had one change of tenants and that was smooth.

Greatly appreciated, all.

I've now started making calls... and had to explain to one agent what "quiet enjoyment" was, as she'd never heard of it. Hmm

Thanks, cd, that looks really useful. Or would be, if it would load properly on my machine.

Interestingly, the agents who didn't understand "quiet enjoyment" get absolutely slated on that site.Grin
