In defence of Denny

Okay, its not got the most attractive town centre but its got some really good points. The surrounding countryside is lovely, my DC have outdoor learning kick sampling in the River Carron (that wasn't just for Mr Bloom's benefit!), the primary schools are good and all have their own nurseries now, one is up for a national award for Parental involvement. At the toddler group I went to there was a mix of mums, dads, grannies and even a couple of granddad's who all mucked in together so no eyebrows would have been raised at a SAHD. My DH grew up in Dunblane and my in-laws still live there, he quite likes the sense of community in Denny and we don't have 5 generations (only 3).

I also love a good takeaway, get my hair done at one the local reasonably priced hairdressers and got a pair of Gina of London shoes at the hospice shop for a £5 so all good for me!

Why udoes Denny need defending?

Couldn't you just have posted this on the thread that mentioned Denny?

I absolutely defend your right to stand up for your community! However, on the other thread, I shared my personal experience rather than a perception. I think it is unfair for people who haven't lived somewhere to just slate it off.

It definitely had it's good points and we still have friends that we made, but we always felt like we were outsiders and found it hard to settle. DS1 went to nursery for a bit and it seemed really good and DH went to toddlers twice a week and a fair proprortion of people would just blank him all the time. That was our experience and I can't change that and I don't want to move back. I do however find that whole central belt a bit samey and places just seem to all flow into each other but that's just my view - I am sure there are thousands of people that think it's great and are very happy there.

1970's Town planners have much to answer for I give you Denny, Cumbernauld, East Kilbride new towns/overspill etc. And the architectural monstrosities committed in historical sites like Stirling and Linlithgow.

Denny (and much of the central belt) bore the brunt of Thatcherism and is still trying to find its identity and recover.

Perhaps Denny should play up its diversity - it's a multicultural melting pot

I had the best time growing up in Denny & Dunipace! Summer holidays consisted of paddling in the Ducky, tramping up the Glen, having the freedom to roam than my daughter won't get now I've moved to Stirling

I will defend it to the hilt but at the same time realise it's problems and out the blame firmly at the door of Falkirk Council. They have let the place go to ruin and it took real community action to get those bloody blocks knocked down and plans for a half decent town centre rolling
