2 days off during term time for holiday

My husband and I are planning a holiday from monday 30th march 2026. School holidays officially start on that weds meaning we will have to take our son out of school for 2 days. We dont know whether or not to let the school know in advance or just call on the day saying hes sick. Will we still get fined for 2 days or does it have to be at least 10 sessions (5 days) to incur the fine?

You won’t get fined. I’d say mine were sick personally.

You won't get fined, I'd just call and say you've gone away. I've done it a couple of times with my kids for the odd day, they would tell the school staff anyway so no point lying about it 😂 It'll just be marked as an unauthorised absence, nothing further will come of it.
