My son is a first -grader does not want to go to school. How to convince him?

Wha t country are you in? Has he visited already? Are his friends going to the same school? Why do you think he feels like that?

He hasn't gone to school yet. And he doesn't even want to start. He's not interested in it at all. I don't know why

You don’t have to ‘convince’ him. It’s a fact, he has to go. Once we reach a certain age we start school and that is how it is. You can chat through any worries he has, answer any questions but don’t waste time ‘convincing’ him. Stay bright and breezy, ‘you will have a great time in Mr/Mrs XXX class’. On the day, hug and kiss, see you at X o clock and off you go. No drama.

If you're in the UK then weren't you invited to settling in sessions?

Have you been telling him about all the positives of school? Does he go to nursery or similar?

Yes, he went to nursery, but he didn't like it there either. He doesn't want to go to school right now. He likes to be at home.

How do you feel about him going to school?

I like being at home too, but I have to go to work. You will need to explain to him that it isn't optional.
