Financial sacrifice and (some) frustration about keeping up with the Joneses...

I feel very very lucky about being able to be a SAHP (although have just had a very difficult day!) but lately have felt some frustration about the material differences between our lives and those we live near. I am really not a materialistic person and was surprised by these thoughts but was wondering did anyone else feel the same? People are often surprised we live in a flat rather than a house and surprised that I don't put my son in child care while staying at home. Sorry I realise this isn't necessarily the right forum but don't know where else to turn, don't want to upset my husband as he is a great and don't want to upset friends who are financially similar to us...

You say you feel lucky to be able to stay at home, others feel lucky to be able to afford plenty of holidays and meals out etc. It is just different lifestyle choices. You don't actually sound very happy with yours?

Thanks I am really happy for my choices for lots of reasons but just had a bad day and was wanting to see if other people struggled with this. You can be happy with your choices but have a bad day!

In a similar position @Indngg. It is hard isn't it, the grass is always greener. I find it better to concentrate on what we can do because we are at home and making myself happy for my friends with their holidays etc. Not letting jealousy take root. I understand this is a month old but do feel free to PM if you see this and want to share experiences.
