Moving to North Norfolk

Good afternoon

We are moving to Norfolk from The Wirral, north west England. Our house is under offer. We have some friends who live in Thorpe Market. We like Cromer, Holt, Mundesley.

It is a huge step, wondering if we should rent say for 3 months or just buy.
I will be retiring next year, so we are not bothered about employment or schools.
I am quite outgoing/friendly. Love walking/yoga and pilates.
Just wish I could find a site where people have done same as us. Wirral is too crowded, full of houses but great culture scene with Liverpool with all the theatres.
We do have a dog and we love animals.
Any suggestions on areas, please xx. PS we need a Kirsty and Phil x

What sort of budget?

There is a massive difference between Holt & Mundesley! Renting first would be a good idea. The 2 coastal towns in particular are very different in the summer to winter.

A very meagre one, we have a rental property that we will probably sell next year, meanwhile we would be happy with a doer up. £240/280. It is a dilemma.

You are far more likely to find somewhere in Mundesley than in Holt for that amount.

It it definitely a coastal village you want to live in?

You won’t be living in Holt for that budget!

Just realised one was Holt so not only coastal villages that you are considering. Please can I ask what attracts you to these locations, as well as other factors that need to be considered. Room sizes, layout, public transport, local facilities, etc. I see you need parking for 2 cars.

My retirement requirements are now very boring

1. walking distance to a decent food shop, not just a corner shop
2. easy bus or taxi to a hospital, not a three hour bus ride or a £60 each way taxi ride.

So I think you need to be looking in either Kings Lynn , or Norwich.

Thank you, to be near the coast would be a bonus. My husband likes rural and isolation, I prefer bit more of a community, pub, village hall, yoga all that jazz. I love Holt. We enjoy doing up properties. It is a huge step I know.

Why not a Norwich suburb? Very close to the coast but also a very cultural place. There are surrounding villages close to Norwich also.

Look at Sheringham, Cromer sounds more up your street.
If you have any specific questions I live 15mins from Cromer :)

You could also look at Aylsham (definitely a community feel..) other inland places?
the problem with coastal is it does get a bit dreary in the winter. Although saying that we often head to the coast in winter for a walk.

southepps is a nice village

Holt is lovely but very expensive. Mundesley is nice but quite small and there’s not a lot going on.

Cromer is a nice seaside town but it gets packed in the summer.

Super excited, found a property, mile outside Holt. Ideal location. We shall see huge step but if we don't do it now never will.

Sorry I mean it is a big step for us moving from suburbia to rural living. Currently where we are we have everything on our doorstep but it is so populated and crowded. We now need slower pace of life and we have also found the people of Norfolk so friendly

Yes, that does take a bit of getting used to! These days you can get take away deliveries and there’s Uber in Norwich, neither of which were around when I first moved to East Anglia. To be honest, I’ve never used them. The pace of life is so much more sedate here (we moved from London), that I feel I’ve got time to shop, cook & eat; go to the fish & chip shop occasionally; take the train, or drive. You might find that a lot of the people who are friendly have moved to north Norfolk from elsewhere themselves.

I absolutely love North Norfolk but couldn't imagine living there and I already live in a small market town,that will be a huge adjustment OP. Hope it works out ok.

What do you do for work, OP?

Wirral isn't crowded. Where about are you? There's loads of green space.
