Relocating to Devon

I would like to relocate to Devon with my adult son who I care for. We like walking in nature and cycling and I like gardening. We currently live in London. I would welcome any suggestions for areas to live that would offer these opportunities and where we would feel safe and have access to social care support services.

Budget? Town? City? Rural? Sea? Moors? It’s a big county (my home county) and is wonderful but we need more information! I’m sure a lot of people will be able to help.

What are your / your son's needs?

Rural is all very nice, but you'll find very little access to things like public transport, jobs, support workers, care workers, drop in centres etc.

Torbay had a good review for adult social care recently:

As others are asking, more detail needed. What made you choose Devon?

Devon County Council is struggling with its SEN and social care provision as are many councils. Devon is also in the process of local government reorganisation, the format of the new structure isn't known yet but in theory it will be in place April 2028. This is likely to cause significant upheaval for all council services and might well see challenges in the delivery of services . Its an unknown at present but things are unlikely to improve.

House prices are high in many popular areas and in many areas this limits the availability of private carers, cleaners etc.

Say a bit more about what you are looking for and I'm sure you'll get input.
