Commuting to London from Fairford

Hi wonderful people of Mumsnet

Would love to hear from anyone who lives in Fairford, Gloucestershire and commutes occasionally (once/twice a week) to London.

Me (32) and my DW (30) are considering moving from London as we have a 1 year old and are hoping to add another DC soon and want to live near my parents (Sheepscombe, Stroud).

We love Fairford as its c. 30 mins from grandparents, is small (but not too small) and has great schools and the housing is good for our budget. We considered Stroud and Cirencester but felt they were not quite right for us. Cheltenham is too pricey and the commute too long.

We both need to be in London c. once a week for work and would be keen to hear from someone who does the drive to Swindon/Kemble and train to Paddington and whether the cost/logistics sits on the awful - manageable scale. Any advice on parking/train fares and reliability would be really welcome!

Following this thread as we are considering a similar move (although not yet decided on a location…)
