Moving to East Devon

We are currently Londoners (family of 4, DS 7, DD 4) looking to move to East Devon - we have seen an ideal cottage in Marsh Green, but wanted to ask - is this location affected by any particularly bad noise or disruption from Exeter airport? It seems very close by, but as it is a regional airport I wondered how bad the air traffic is! Any advice would be so appreciated!

Marsh Green is just off the 26 approach and also under the active circuit so you will absolutely see and hear traffic. If they are on 08 they will be departing overhead before making the turn to the north or south. During summer months flights operate between 6am and the early hours, but they operate a much shorter flying program in the winter. Royal Mail have ceased operations so there is now less flying overnight, but the Tui aircraft x2 do operate. The general aviation aircraft in the circuit especially on fair weather days will operate during opening hours, roughly 8 till 8.

You will probably be able to hear aircraft engine running during maintenance although have just had a new noise screen built which may be an improvement.

Thank you Runwayqueen! Really helpful. Is it so much of a nuisance that it is somewhere we should avoid living? I don't mind if we see or hear planes, just wondering if it is an area dominated by the noise and disruption of the airport nearby...

The noise from the A30 would be more of a concern for me. Have you viewed yet?

I work there so I don’t find the noise disruptive, however when it came to purchasing my house I couldn’t get far enough away. Even now, on my second house, I’m frustratingly under the 08 approach from the south, and I’m 22 miles away from the airport.

to be fair the commercial traffic isn’t too horrendous but the droning of the GA traffic is a nuisance. It’s not just Exeter airport too, you have Dunkerswell and another landing strip to contend with too. I agree with the other comment, the A road is very noisy.

Ah good to know! Thanks so much both! We are hoping to visit in the next couple of weeks 🤞
