Moving to Suffolk

Hello all,

Solo parent looking for opinions/lived experiences!
I am planning a relocation to Suffolk, after several years of extensive research and trips.
We both absolutely feel at home there, and have made some connections.

Currently live in an overwhelmingly busy part of the south, inaccessible to us in many ways, and could not afford to buy here.

DC and I have whittled it down to either Beccles or Bungay. But now we are stuck! Beccles, I see there is certainly more houses that come up in budget, and bigger properties, however the new housing developments worry me, as it could become to busy for us.
Bungay, we loved too, seems quieter, but smaller properties when they do come up. However, I would take location over property size. They are both lovely places!

What do you think? Beccles or Bungay? Thanks in advance for your wisdom! 😊💓

Beccles, although I’m biased because it’s my hometown. I would move back if I could, despite all of the new developments. If you can afford it, look for an older property around the Grange/Upper Grange Road area, which has always been considered the “posher” bit.

Have you considered Halesworth too?

Thanks! Beccles is lovely town, only thing that worries me is how much busier it may get due to the new developments. Do you know much about this?
The groups another PP mentioned worry me a bit too, had some groups shouting stuff to my daughter and I on a recent visit, put me off a little.

There's everything you need in Beccles, less so in Bungay. Only one doctor's surgery though and only Nationwide for banking from May. This is no different to other towns of course.
