What does a Farm Labourer do?

Possibly a very random question 🤔
My son has the chance to do some farm labouring work through his college. He is doing Animal related work and they have been given the opportunity to go live/work on a farm for a while.
Long days, early starts, heavy manual work he expects.
Anything else he should be aware of?

He will very likely get very little time off and may have to work weekends. He will need a very good set of waterproofs, wellies/strong boots and warm socks. Meals will not always be eaten at regular times and he is likely to only get a very brief meal break depending on how busy things are. He will smell and the smell will not always disappear after a shower (wife of a former pig farm manager). Working outdoors in winter is tough, it will not matter if it is rainining, snowy, icy, windy, jobs need to be done and being cold and wet is not fun. Always check gates are closed properly, always measure twice and cut once. I spent the some of the happiest times of my life working on a farm and I hope that your son does too!
