Moving to Milborne Port, Somerset

Hello wise people of MN,

I am hoping to make the move from SE London to Milborne Port in Somerset to give my kids a life in the fresh air, away from the gang violence and drug dealing that is becoming a daily occurrence where we currently live. I'm excited about the change, but having been in London for almost twenty years, I'm nervous that I'm not going to fit in, or that my kids (5 yrs and 3yrs) are going to be considered townies...

What's the best thing I could do to meet people and ingratiate with the community? Is there anyone from Milborne Port on here who has any advice on things to do locally for young families? What are the best state primary schools and pre-schools in and around the MP/Sherborne area? All advice gratefully received.

Thank you :)

@Queenieoh Did you find any further information. We are thinking of moving to the Milborne Port / Sherborne area too, this year or next.

Sorry for late response @Atty81 It looks like we'll be making the move very soon! Are you still thinking about it too?

Hi @Queenieoh no I didn’t but we decided to look further west and move to South Petherton. The community and schooling there seem good and we’ve compromised on the house (a bungalow that we’ll need to renovate). It’s been really hard to decide since we don’t know any of these areas very well. I feel I may struggle with rural life after having so much around us. South Petherton does have some nice amenities though. Have you found a home?

Sherborne is full of people who moved from London. You will be far from alone. Personally I would live in Sherborne rather then Milborne Port though- I think having to drive for anything more than a corner shop would get wearing.

Edit- sorry I now see this thread is old. Don't know how I ended up seeing it.
