Is Warminster a good place to live?

Hi all,

Desperately after some advice and hoping someone may be able to help. We are looking to move from West Sussex to the west! Fairly open to suggestions as partner has a work from home job. The biggest push in our move is simply cost of living.

Have been drawn to Warminster for its much more affordable housing, like the fact it seems to be on the edge of Wiltshire and near to countryside, a big enough town and near schools for our little one. Also like the fact it’s more southernly compared to some other places as then it’s closer to travel back to see friends/family etc.

Can anyone who knows the area offer any insight please? Would really appreciate it!

Warminster has a good children's park and close to Longleat. That said I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful town, it has a military barracks and most shops etc that you would need. If you were looking in that sort of area Bradford on Avon or outskirts of Bath are nice options. It depends really what your main motivations and priorities are! Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help! Will have a look into Bradford on Avon - like the idea of a more “Cotswolds” lifestyle so will investigate!

Consider Devizes?

In that case you will like Bradford on Avon. Little independent shops, cafes, restaurants etc. artisan markets and nice community events for families. A safe town with good schools.

BOA is full of old people IMO.
Warminster is great- some very beautiful villages round the outside. Good value. Close to Salisbury. Good links to Bristol. I think to get to London you'd go via either salisbury or Westbury.

I live in a village just outside warminster. I think it is a good place to live as a family. A great town park, near to Longleat, shearwater and the Deverills. Loads of extra curricular activities for children. Easy to get to Bath and Salisbury and direct trains to London from near by Westbury. It is not the prettiest of towns but has a good community. You could join the heart of Warminster Facebook page which might help to give you an idea of the area.

It’s pretty dull - but certainly more going on than BOA or Devizes. Salisbury is more £££ but a bit more to do I think. You could have a look at Frome - I don’t really know it but people I know do like it - allegedly hippyish.

Go near Bristol or Bath if you’d like a bit more going on.

You have to drive to Bristol or Trowbridge for any useful good value shops though. Although BOA does have a small Sainsbury's. If they want the south of Wiltshire then why not Salisbury?
