Hi,
I currently live in North Wales with my family. I am looking for a fresh start but have no idea where. I like being by countryside and the beach but with access to bigger cities within an hour and smaller cities with lots of amenities within half an hour. Not interested in shopping, but my children do lots of sports etc.

We have looked at various places but nothing seems to fit the bill. I would like south rather than north I think, but that's purely based on wanting less rain!

I'm not a fan of Manchester or Birmingham. I liked Edinburgh but it would be too far from London etc for weekend visits. I like Cardiff and Bristol looks nice, but too far from a beach probably.

Any suggestions? Work not an issue as we can work from anywhere. We have about £1 million for the perfect house, but obviously would prefer to spend less! We'd need 5 beds at least and a decent garden. Possibly 3 acres.

Also we'd need good primary and soon secondary schools!

Any ideas please?

Countryside outside Brighton/Lewes? Not sure how far your budget would go there though. Between WInchester and Southampton? Both have good access to London.

Penarth near Cardiff.

We're in rural County Durham. Lots for your money in comparison to some other parts of the country. Beautiful countryside, beaches, good train links to the South from Darlington and Newcastle. Our teenager goes to a great school. Just a thought.

I'll have a look thanks.
I did enjoy being in Cardiff, although I have been told it's chaos with traffic!

Hmm, it's going to be tricky to get the OP what she wants on that budget outside of Winchester, there are some highly desirable (and very pretty) villages in that neck of the woods with some of them with direct trains to London but the prices are through the roof, you'd get a garden rather than acres, having said that the village of Chilworth going towards Southampton has big 1920s/1930s houses for about 1 million or just over.....might be worth a look?

That is beautiful!

Norfolk or Suffolk or Somerset

Swansea. Cardiff for shopping.

Somerset. We've moved from there to somewhere very rural & to be honest I'd rather be back in Somerset! Nearer Bristol & Bath both great areas & schools
