Moving to Suffolk

Hi 👋🏻
so my partner and my two children (9 and 12) are looking to buy our first property together in Suffolk. We are currently in West Sussex so about 2 hours away.
we have seen some lovely homes but struggling to pinpoint the right location. We keep struggling with the area, we have seen lovely homes in Chedburgh, Stanton and Thurston. It’s quite a rural jump for us and we don’t know just how rural we actually want to be.

any tips?

thanks x

When we moved we spent some time staying in Airbnbs in the villages we liked before making the final decision.

Once we found our favourite village a perfect house came up and we have been here for ever since.

I don't live in Suffolk anymore but I used to, it's lovely. We lived near Busy St Edmunds.

Have a good look at schools and the transport links. Also, check the local bus services. Some schools in Suffolk have large catchment areas, and you can spend a lot of time taking them to meet their friends.

Chedburgh is about 15min drive to Bury St Edmunds. It will be in catchment to some small primary schools that have a school bus unless you want to drive. Secondary schools are a bit further away and will need a bus to get to.

There is a public bus service but it is doesn't run after 6pm. There is a college in Bury St Edmunds but bus passes to get there are £310 a term currently. Children tend to need adults to give them lifts to see friends in other villages.

The village and area is nice enough.

Think about the schools, doctors, hospitals and entertainments. Your 12 yr old will soon want to go out with friends. Will you have to drive them everywhere? Will there be anywhere for them to go. We love Suffolk but you have to think about two soon to be teenagers as well.
