Flockton?

We are considering a property in Flockton, nr Wakefield. Know the 2 local towns aren't great, but what is Flockton like? We would be relocating from the south east. We want to be in/near the countryside, good pubs/restaurants and farmshops/local suppliers. It looks like a good place to commute to Leeds/Manchester/London.

Are you local at all to Flockton? I live 5 mins away and wouldn't especially want to live there, it's very very busy as it's a short cut to the motorway so at rush hour there's always queuing. And there's a new housing estate that's been built so extra pressure on local schools/ GP surgeries plus more traffic. There's other local villages that I think are nicer such as Kirkburton.

Sorry just seen you're not local so you won't especially know other local areas. Other nice areas round there are Woolley and also areas of Bretton (but Bretton also busy as close to M1). Let me know if you want any advice on other areas (and where to avoid 🤣)

Agree with PP very busy and a bit of a rat run for commuters. Kirkburton, Shelley, Shepley, Denby Dale and Holmfirth all lovely.

Thanks for the replies, we like the look of the house but sounds like the road is much busier than we anticipated. We might go and look if it's still on the market in a bit but will definitely see what it's like in rush hour.

I live in Flockton, it’s fine for us. I commute to Manchester and my husband to Leeds, the other villages are quieter but living there would add significant driving time onto our journeys! The pub is very nice, lots of walking, plenty of nice towns/villages nearby. There is a good community spirit.

There are also significant housing developments planned in Kirkburton and Denby Dale so can’t rule that out either to be honest.
