Benson

Thinking of moving out of the city to somewhere slightly more rural, with smaller community and within easy reach of the river and thinking of Benson or Cholsey. They seem like nice villages with a lot of amenities within easy reach. Just one thing DH worried about and that's noise from helicopters at night waking him up. Guess that's the case if you live close enough! Can anyone confirm if this is a big issue or not. Thank you.

Not sure I would call either Benson or Cholsey very rural, but it depends on your perspective I guess & where you're coming from.

I used to live in Goring and the helicopters only came over sometimes and not at night. As Benson is right by the RAF base I assume any noise would be louder there; suspect not much of an issue in Cholsey.

I used to live in Cholsey and Chalgrove. Benson is such a drive-through village. Not much there, terrible noise from helicopters. Nice tennis club though. Cholsey is much better. Having the train station nearby is handy. Lots of building in the area though. Neither are particularly rural, especially Benson. Look at Shillingford, Dorchester, Ewelme and Roke.

Living in Reading we enjoy walks in Benson, it seems to be a lovely place.
