Hi @kalraj did you ever get any insights on Paddock Wood, we are also considering moving there, we currently live in North London and would also be interested to know any insights you have.

kalraj · 11/02/2023 16:22

@mamalumi we never got any, but we’ve moved to Tunbridgewells. We’re happy with our move to Kent from west London. Trust me it’s so peaceful here as compared to London, kids love it here. Paddock wood will be the same in Kent just few miles away from Tunbridge Wells.

Isn't Paddock Wood a bit of a secondary school black hole?

mamalumi · 11/02/2023 21:56

@Turmerictolly no idea there don't seem to be many primary schools in the area to cater to all the new developments being built there either. There seems to be Mascalls academy but it's the only secondary school. Is it and good?

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could share their recent experiences of moving out of London to Paddock Wood? We’re looking at moving to PW from North London and have to consider schools; just primary for now but in a few years the oldest will go secondary.
In my research I’ve come across PW primary school and Mascalls as secondary. Any tips, feedback or anything much appreciated.
Thanks!

It's a dump

GlassBunion · 09/03/2023 21:59

I'd not be looking to live in Paddock Wood.

EJP2012 · 10/03/2023 08:47

@catinboooots @GlassBunion Any particular reasons?

My parents retired to PW and I visit often. I don't recognise that description at all.

mamalumi · 10/03/2023 09:19

I'm also in North London and looking to move, went to check out Paddock Wood and it wasn't for me, the main issue being the lack of school options, you only have the one high school (although there are the private and grammar options near by but unless you have the money for private grammar it's super competitive) and doesn't seem to be much going on around there either...

EJP2012 · 10/03/2023 17:31

Thanks both, that’s helpful.
Yes the limited schools are a concern for me too.

3peassuit · 10/03/2023 17:37

Apart from a good Waitrose there’s not much around. I don’t think it comparable to Tunbridge Wells.

I grew up in Paddock Wood and i have never know of these "Huge Drug Problems" my parents have lived in p wood for 40 years and its a lovely place with slot of friendly people you get good and bad in all places it just sounds like you have no idea about p wood how long have you lived in p wood for ? Also the schools are very good i went to both primary and secondary school and mascalls is a very good school with top of the range you can see that the school spends a lot of money on new buildings,Paddock wood has so much to offer but like i said you have good and bad but the bad really isn't bad in the 25 years i lived in p wood i have never been a victim of crime and i've all ways felt vey safe walking the streets but im very curious what are the drug problems you are so sure exists ? what drugs are they ? p wood also has great rail connection's its a 45 ish train to central London

Laura19884 · 06/12/2023 15:58

Also the high crime rates you speak of what are they ? i've never encountered murders on the streets or stabbings i don't live in a gated community i live on open streets and i park my porsche gt3 in the village on the side of the road i park in the train station car park and putlands leisure centre and in the hop farm and on the street when i visit my friends and my husband parks his ferrari on the streets in the village and he also grew up in paddock wood and he has friends in the council estate side of paddock wood and in the settled mobile home parks and he has never had a scratch on his car no vandalism ever and our house that is just outside of the council estate has never been vandalised we have lovely neighbours and community and the kids are so sweet we often get the kids in the summer ask to wash our cars and we all ways let them and tip them generously to encourage their work ethic its really impressive the business sense a lot of kids have in the area,i honestly think you have never lived in this lovely town as you never notice the good that happens we also have a great remembrance sunday parade we have a lot of veteran's in our community and we have cadets and scouts and brownies we all come together hundreds of us line the street and our church comes to the ceremony and speaks and thanks everyone it is very respectful we have never had a service stopped or interrupted due to junkies beng junkies shouting high on drugs or stumbling around in the middle of the parade give it a fair look don't listen to idiots online that clearly have no clue and think two lines can explain a town my advice is to go and stay in the area for a week or a few days to get the feel for the place early in the morning you see loads of people in suits at the station going to work you don't see homeless people sitting at the station begging i've never seen it
