Close to sea and countryside?

Just looking for examples of places to live, anywhere in UK, that have a nice beach or seaside town but also close to the countryside . . . that are on the less expensive side yet still pleasant places to live?

Vale of Glamorgan.

Poppitt58 · 26/03/2022 10:37

West Cumbria

Timeface · 26/03/2022 10:40

Most of the time
If we’re reaskktic
Both theses and the countryside in both the previous two recommendation will cold, breezy, drizzley, grey

With a few random glorious days of sun

If you want to enjoy being outside for more than a few weeks a year
South coast all the way

Honeyroar · 26/03/2022 10:44

Barmouth.

OldTinHat · 26/03/2022 10:45

Isle of Wight.

West Cumbria / South Cumbria / the West side of North Lancashire

FelicityPike · 26/03/2022 10:51

Lots of Ayrshire.

If you want to enjoy being outside for more than a few weeks a year

Confused yes, in the north we only leave our homes for a fortnight per year….

West Cumbria gets normal weather ie ordinary northern conditions. Bloody glorious today.

However, If you want the South don’t move to Cumbria (cos it’s in the North)

🤣🤣 Incredible, isn’t it. I have an outdoor coffee/snack kiosk in the Manchester Pennines, where is rains more than most places, yet people have actually come to it all winter. I must tell them off!
Figgyroller · 26/03/2022 11:05

Shoreham. Bit pricey but beach, estuary and a hop skip and jump from South Downs National park.

Redannie118 · 26/03/2022 11:07

Northumberland. Miles and miles of unspoilt, blue flag beaches, stunning, historic little villages and our countryside is so perfect most of it is national park( and dark sky protected). We are also the least populated county in England so no where is crowded !

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 26/03/2022 11:07

What does less expensive mean to you OP?

RIPWalter · 26/03/2022 11:12

Depends on what you mean by "less expensive". Prices have gone crazy in rural/coastal areas due to second home ownership, but prices are still comparably cheap compared to London and the South east.

I'm in North West Wales and properties near me are selling ridiculously quickly (within hours for some properties).

TroysMammy · 26/03/2022 11:23

Swansea which admittedly is a city but it has a beach. A short drive away is Mumbles which locals like to think it's a village which has independent shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs, ice cream parlours and a pier. Nearby Bracelet, Rotherslade, Caswell and Langland beaches, Bishopston woods. Houses pricey.

Clyne country park (the woods) which is massive, Sketty and Killay nearby then a bit further afield Gower, more woods and countryside and a lot more beaches. Houses can be pricey further down you go but villages like Gowerton (railway station into Swansea and to West Wales) and Penclawdd on the periphery of the Gower house prices reasonable.

stripeyflowers · 26/03/2022 11:31

wow! so many responses - thank you.

Less expensive - no more than £300k - house or apartment considered.

Somerset

RIPWalter · 26/03/2022 11:44

You say you'd consider an apartment. Can I ask how old you are?

North Wales coast has a lot of 55+ apartments, particularly in Llandudno, which has 2 beaches, the great orme and beautiful countryside just inland.

WellNotReally · 26/03/2022 11:49

Argyll and Bute has stunning coastlines and is beautiful inland too. Perfect if your don't mind rain (and midges), and very reasonable property prices.

EwwSprouts · 26/03/2022 11:49

Close to Scarborough and just into the North Yorkshire Moors national park.
