Hi all,

Looking to relocate to Cumbria - have found a house in Cleator Moor that we like the look of.

I've never been to Cleator and was wondering if anyone had any experience/advice for a newbie?

Thanks

Dh applied for a job in nearby Egremont some years ago. We went and had a look around the area and he immediately withdrew his application! I stayed in Cleator (the village near Cleator Moor) this year for a craft course. The countryside is truly stunning, but the villages and towns are really run-down and depressing. Workington is an absolute hole. Cockermouth is ok. There is no way I would live in that area.

Dh eventually found a job in the South Lakes area (not far from Kendal), which is where we live now. Still stunning countryside, but much, much nicer villages and towns. More expensive though!

Apologies to anyone who lives there (especially Workington) Blush.

@Fairislefandango thank you for your reply! We've since seen a place in Penrith which I think is lovely, haven't spent much time there though. Any idea on the area? x

Cockermouth area is better, town itself has a sainsburys, lidl and aldi, bakers and butchers etc so essentials covered. Agree about workington and Cleator Moor, there is no way I would live there. How about around St bees on the coast? Years since I have been but it used to be nice.
