Hello,
We are thinking of moving around this area. Can anyone offer any insight in to it incl. schools etc?
Thanks

Hello OP You will need to think of schools first and then make sure you are in the catchment. These areas are each in different districts - Mellor is in Ribble Valley, Pleasington in Blackburn and Houghton (I think) in South Ribble. For secondary in the Ribble Valley you would have the option of Ribblesdale or possibly St Augustine's if you are RC. Blackburn has a variety of secondaries with the most highly thought of being St Wilfrid's, St Bede's if RC. I don't know anything about South Ribble schools I'm afraid. There is also Clitheroe Grammar (entry via 11+) and private schools such as Westholme and Stonyhurst. Hope this helps a little.

Out of those 3, I would choose Mellor or Pleasington.
There seems to be buses that take the kids in all direction for schools.
There is Bowland that the pp has missed, which is Clitheroe way and St Christopher's that is Accrington way.

Yes, as PP says I would go for Mellor or Pleasington. Mellor is close to major roads which then lead easily to the M6 so you can get further afield quickly if you need to. It is also between Blackburn and Preston so you can get into either easily enough for after school activities (but traffic in both at certain times is awful). Bowland is an excellent secondary but check catchment carefully as Mellor is the "wrong" end of the Ribble Valley; even some in Clitheroe itself don't get into Bowland now.
