Busy village in Herefordshire?

We’re taking the plunge and moving this year, but becoming a bit overwhelmed with trying to find the “perfect” area. We’d like a “busy” village in Herefordshire- one with a few shops, school, park etc but not in the centre of Hereford itself. Does anyone know anywhere? We’ve driven through a few villages but they seem to be a few houses, by a pub and school with no shops or village halls. We have two young children (8 & 4) so want somewhere they have things to do. We’re from South Wales so have very limited knowledge of things over the border!!

It's a market town rather than a village, but I live Ross On Wye and the surrounding areas.

What you are describing is not a village, it is a small town. By definition, Herefordshire villages do not have "a few shops"!!

St Weonards has a good shop, and a small old village hall. Lots of new houses being built there.

Garway is a delight - brilliant school and an excellent new village hall that is a Passiv building. Has a pub, a common and wonderful social life. Nearest shop is a couple of miles away in Broad Oak.

Grosmont is lovely - it has a castle, a small village shop, good pub. It is in fact just over the border and is in Wales.

I mainly know the villages in S Herefordshire, but lots of interesting places north of the river. Weobley is attractive and lively - it is of course a town. I think you need to look at the market towns. Ledbury is nice and it is near the Malverns. There is of course Hay-on-Wye.

What about Ledbury? Good schools, variety of shops, swimming pool, good community vibe.

Sorry Mischance just read you'd recommended Ledbury too.
