Dartmouth or Totnes?

If you are reasonably local, or know the areas well, where would you prefer to live and why?

2DC, primary age but need good secondary. Independent probably an option if need be.

Know both places well, I think my preference would be Dartmouth but interested in local opinions.

Dartmouth is pretty, but has a lot of 'issues' ..deprivation and many in poverty. Big drug problem with teens. Summer months the roads are busy and can get gridlocked. Totnes has more going on and mainline station. Schools are good and closer to get to private if you want that option. Totnes, as with many rural towns has its issues but would prefer it over Dartmouth.

Totnes but I like the alternative vibe. The transport links are better.

Dartmouth. Totnes had a lot of empty shops last time I went.
