Moving to Beaminster, Dorset

Hello,

An opportunity has arose for our family and we are seriously contemplating moving to Beaminster, Dorset but looking for some reassurance/opinions please.

My husband and I are currently based in Buckinghamshire, and have a 6 y/o son, 4 y/o daughter, 2 y/o son, newborn baby and dog too!

Having grown up about 25 mins away in a rural Somerset village, I am fairly familiar with the area and we would have family much closer than we have now. My husband is Buckinghamshire born and bred but up for a change too.

We love the feel of the town and its proximity to the coast (without being right in the thick of it) but would like honest feedback on bringing up a young family in the area (schools, amenities etc). The idea of leaving the ratrace of the the southeast behind for a slower pace of life really appeals to us, we are very outdoorsy, children are outside in the garden as much as they can.

Thank you!

Hi OP, I know it’s been a while since you posted but wondering if you got any further with your decision? I am in the same situation, considering a move from Hertfordshire to Beaminster which would take me closer to family but further from the network I’ve built here, especially as a new mum. (My little boy is 4 months old). Would love to know any insight you got when considering and if you’ve decided to make the move. Thanks so much.

Moon, if you make a move whilst you DS is still a baby you will still find it easy to find friends as you attend toddler groups etc. Moving when he is a bit older might be more difficult as groups are already quite established. We moved when dc were 8 and 6 and that was really hard, especially leaving the many friends I had made when they started nursery and school
