Moving areas

Hi I currently live in the south east. It's so expensive here and I feel like I will always be renting.
Has anyone decided to move areas for cheaper house prices, better quality of life. How did you find the move? Any regrets?

I have been looking at Devon, cornwall and west wales. I feel stuck at the moment.

I've just done it and highly recommend it. Slower, nicer, friendlier, more beautiful way of life. Seeing the countryside come to life is a treat after so many commutes out of London on the M3. I wish I'd done it years ago tbh....

Where abouts did you move too if you don't mind me asking. How did you find it? Do you miss family etc?

I moved from Kent to North Devon 2 years ago, for the same reasons really. Always been a country girl at heart and hated living in such a busy, fast paced area and house prices were extortionate. My (now) DH and I were looking at buying houses near where we lived and were finding nothing suitable, stumbled across a run down farmhouse in Devon and the seed was sown from there. We didn't get that house but moved into a similar property and love it, traded a 2 bed house with a tiny garden for a 4 bed farmhouse with 8 acres. We both found jobs really quickly luckily, not massively paid but enough. The process took months and huge stress but only because we were buying a probate house and had to get bridging finance as we couldn't sell our house for an age.

Haven't regretted it for a moment though, other than missing my family and friends but I can be back there in 4 hours so not too bad. There is just a slower pace of life down here, no one cares what car you drive or what you're wearing. Still elements of the same day to day grind and popping to the supermarket takes an hour but we don't mind. We're here for good now, feel free to PM me if you need more info :D

I moved to Somerset. I tried it out before and loved it, returned to Surrey, sold flat and moved back. I suppose I miss going up to London but that's easily done on the train... Where are you thinking of moving to?

If you want a rural life then Devon is stunning But, you will have the same expensive rent and be stuck saving for a mortgage just like in the south east. The SW is almost on par with parts of the SE now.

Yep. I moved from West Sussex to the Isle of Wight three years ago. Best decision ever. Still close to family but also feels a world away. Managed to get a cute three bedroom cottage here and paid off my mortgage. I've made so many friends and have never been happier.
