Villages near york

We're looking to relocate to York but, as ever, are hoping for everything 😂

Here goes - does anyone have any recommendations for lovely local countryside, good schools and some sense of community, and reasonable connections, particularly to Leeds, whilst not being more than about 20/30 mins from York city centre? I'm particularly keen to keep a bit of rural living if possible! TIA

I'm from Dunnington and I would recommend looking at any of the villages to the SE of York - Dunnington, Elvington, Pocklington (although more of a town than village). Also the smaller rural villages near these (Warthill and Holtby spring to mind) - all these places are 10 - 15 minutes from the A64 (so commutable to Leeds) and within 20 minutes of the city centre. If I was moving back I would want to live closer to the Wolds (NE of the city) - but takes you the opposite of easily commutable to Leeds. Google maps also tells me Marton Cum Grafton (have friends there) is also 30 minutes into York. Haven't lived there myself but they really enjoy the village the life there. I'm unsure on schools catchments on that side of York.

Pocklington has a fairly significant drug problem though, doesn't it?

We currently live in Murton, nice and quiet - we have alpacas and other farm animals within a stone's throw away. Only downside is nearest shop, pub, school or dr's is a 20 min walk or a few minutes drive

We are in Poppleton. Is a fantastic place. Just off the city ring road.
Train station gets you into York in 5 mins with onward connections to Leeds from there.
Outstanding schools, great community feel, good access to countryside.

Another vote for Upper Poppleton!

Lol would love to move back. Family from Pock and Acomb. Not a cat in hells chance with property prices now. Saying that we've not got 500,000 to spend Sad So much for tne North being cheap....
