Village in Derbyshire - suggestions please

We are looking to relocate to Derbyshire. I know the Peak District well as spent a lot of my childhood living there and I am familiar with the area surrounding Bakewell and towards Sheffield (calver / curbar etc).

But...I would like suggestions of other villages we could look at that tick the following boxes:

  • good schooling (ideally not having to pay) so an outstanding or at least well regarded secondary is essential.
  • green, open space, rural not busy
  • amenities within a 10-15 min drive, happy to be pretty remote but need to drive to a shop obviously and schools
  • not fussed about pubs etc
  • pretty / attractive, good walks nearby
  • opportunity to buy a large detached property (4+ bedroom) plus annexe or outbuildings for under 800k.
  • commuting is not an issue but being within 20 min drive of a train line would be helpful

Does anyone have any suggestions of places to look that I might be less familiar with?

Also should have said being on a bus route is essential. I grew up in a tiny village and having a bus route was a lifeline as a teenager so don’t want to put my kids through not having the opportunity to go out!

Hello! I’m really sorry I can’t help, but if you know the area around Bakewell, do you know other villages like Bakewell nearby?
We are looking to move to somewhere beautiful!

I have friends who live in Whaley Bridge and it sounds like it'd tick all those boxes. I may be wrong though, I've never been personally!

Chapel en le Frith in the High Peak perhaps?

Grindleford is lively, as is Hathersage.
Buxton for a town, obvious choice.

Have you considered Doveridge. Pretty village, community events ( not in Covid times) ) good primary school and only 3 miles from nearest town. Selection of supermarkets, cinema, ice rink, Dr's, restaurants etc .

Forgot to add, regular buses to Derby for additional shopping if needed

Ha! I live in Doveridge. There are lots of nice villages around the Ashbourne area. Slightly less 'Peak District' to the south at least but still lovely countryside. Probably a bit cheaper and less remote than actually in the Peak District.
