Where do you live now? What things are important to you location/home wise?

Driving to Bristol would take over an hour by car - this could double in traffic. I have no idea about the train.

It's seems like a strange choice to me - most welsh people living locally wouldn't choose it as a place to move to without having links to the area.

We are happy to travel we live near Weston super mare at present and we wanted somewhere with land - unsure why you would say it’s strange that’s why I asked what it was like to live there ?

I say strange because Abertillery is the type of place you go to because you have links to the area. The Welsh valleys are full of the most fantastic people but its not for everyone - the close-knit community would be too much for me.

The surrounding scenery is beautiful and I'm sure if you find the right plot you'd have a fantastic place for a reasonable budget.

We aren’t really too bothered about being part of the community as we have 3 businesses which keep us busy so we keep ourselves to ourselves we are just wondering if they hate the English as I read that people in abertillery do so worried the neighbours would dislike us and that it can be quite rough but not sure if that’s just in the town - we were looking at a property overlooking the town

Not true about not liking the English! We're a very friendly community (in general) in the valleys - do you have children? What's your budget? Have you looked at Brynmawr? Gilwern or Abergavenny? All a bit closer for you.

This is the quote on the internet when I was researching

“ A warning, don’t come here unless your ambition is to live in a complete slum!

I knew Wales standards would be different to England’s, but I didn’t realise they would have no standards here at all. My quality of life has dropped to nil since making the huge mistake of moving here. They despise old people, women (unless they behave like *** that is) and particularly the English!””

I don’t have children just animals we are looking all over really we wanted at least a small field as part of the property but thank you as I will also look in those areas ideally we want quite rural but not isolated. About 250k is our budget at the moment

That quote is funny and totally untrue!

For that money you would get a nice house in the valleys, look at Brynmawr, Blaina, Blaenavon, even Pontypool & Cwmbran (but I don't know those two areas as well) they all would be on route for you and closer than Abertillery. I probably wouldn't choose to live there and I'm from the area, not because of any of that nonsense on the site but because to me it feels a bit cut off, neither here nor there.

Gilwern, Abergavenny, Clydach, Llanelli Hill would all be worth a look but are an NP7 postcode and the house prices are more expensive.
