Porthmadog dreams

I have plans (dreams) of moving to Porthmadog in the near future. Does anyone live there/nearby that can advise me on the realities of being in a little town away from all my/Dh's family. Neither of us drive but there is a train station in Porthmadog. We would be mortgage free but would both like a little part- time job just to keep us sane. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You would be mad to move to there without being able to drive.
Trains and buses are not every ten minutes.
With car you can really get to places and enjoy snowdonia.
Learn to drive an automatic if easier.
If you cannot drive for medical reasons then consider somewhere with better links like Llandudno on main holyhead Chester london line

Family live north Wales and i would only visit with access to car. Or if based somewhere like Llandudno. You very limited otherwise. You will want to drive for a walk in Mountain or beach or picnic or shops or to hospital. Etc. Check out taxi services there. And where the train and buses aCtually go to and how often.

Any reason why Porthmadog? I'm not in north Wales, but in your circs would consider looking at Aberystwyth - more jobs, lovely town, friendly people, easy access to the surrounding countryside & decent public transport for rural Wales.

I live in north wales (not Potthmadog) and i would worry about being isolated without a car

Also re jobs, it is very seasonal. Unless you speak welsh, or are willing to learn, you would only be able to look at the seasonal hospitality jobs really.

Thankyou for the replies. Yes, i had a feeling the not driving might be a problem. I have the rose-tinted glasses on i think! We do love Llandudno and would consider living there but i would ideally want to be up near the Great Orme rather than in the actual town. Rail services and shop access would certainly be in easier reach.

Living near the Orme is living in the town. Do you realise that?
