Alton or Petersfield to move to?

Where would you prefer to live? We want somewhere nice with good schools and things to do.. A good place for kida/families as well as nice pubs and restaurants etc. I know Petersfield is more expensive and has good transport links and A3 however we work from home so we dont need the train train line.

The main thing for us is nice decent people but friendly and down to earth (not stuck up on the one hand or chavy on the other ha ha!) and things to do! I know every town has good and bad areas but overall where is best and why?

Overall i think i prefer Petersfield for things to do/lovely market town but Alton i'm told is more friendly and down to earth?

I think what im asking is, is there enough in Alton to sway us as its cheaper! Im not sure Altons town centre is as good as Petersfield? I'll hopefully have a baby soon as well so want to feel happy in a new town with a baby

I used to live not too far from Petersfield and Alton...I would move to Petersfield at the drop of a hat! It is beautiful and has a really lovely lake/playground near the centre for walking and taking children. It would be a lovely place to pop out to walk with a baby. However loads of really nice restaurants to enjoy while you still have your evenings free to go out. Can't comment on the community feel though as we only ever went there for a wander.

We went to visit Alton because we wanted to check it out and we ended up just keeping driving because there didn't look like there was anything worth stopping for. So I can't really comment on there except my impressions was that it was a practical town rather than a pretty town. It is surrounded by beautiful places though if you're happy to hop in the car. I might be being unfair on Alton but that's just based on what we saw.

Having lived somewhere really unremarkable before, I know for me personally it's worth the extra cost to love going for a walk from my doorstep.

Hope that helps a bit!

I prefer Petersfield. Farnham is also nice. Or Godalming.
