Nicest place to live and commute to London

Hi all, first post here and just wanted some help after a considerable amount of research that has ended nowhere!

Me and the boyfriend are looking to move out of London as neither of us particularly like it - we want to live by the sea or in a lovely part of the countryside

BF’s job is based near Oxford Circus and would ideally not like to travel too much more than an hour, but would travel 1.5 hours for the right place

I’m a private Nanny and so would need to be somewhere in or nearby (can drive) an area that has demand for Nannies

Can anyone help point us in the right direction? We’ve narrowed the coastal places down to Hove, Shoreham-by-Sea, Portslade (generally along that coastal line), Southend-On-Sea and Folkestone. As for country towns/villages, it’s been difficult to find somewhere that has many houses for sale or that is commutable to London

We’re not bothered by nightlife & bars but would love a couple of local pubs, a tennis club fairly nearby & gym nearby with other fairly standard amenities. We want the community feel that we’ve missed having lived in London.

We don’t have children yet, but would probably plan to in the next few years

Sadly we’re millennials, so our budget for a house is tiny (£270k max for 2nd hand house and £350k on the help to buy scheme)

I know this group is amazing for advice, so hopefully someone can help us find our dream location Smile

Thank you!

Kelvedon might suit? its less than a 10 minute drive to Witham (a larger town that has a gym and tennis club), but it has its own train station, shops and pubs and you could afford a 2 bed house there. its around 1hr-1hr20min commute to Oxford Circus x

Thanks sleepismysuperpower1! Have checked out, looks lovely. Bit far away from countryside & sea, but certainly a pretty little village

Whitstable is meant to be nice! Also Broadstairs is lovely and great beaches

Thank you custardbear, they are both lovely but Broadstairs is just a bit too far for my commute - Whitstable is just over the time I want to travel for but it’s definitely an option
