More rural locations near Buckingham university

Hi Mums

Hubby and I will be relocating close to Buckingham university. I don't know the area at all but would love to stay someplace more rural with views, but still close to shops, transport and great schools. We have an 8 year old so would love your advice on towns to look into. Thanks a mill!

Well obviously Buckingham itself is a small town so has most facilities. No train station but it does have a reasonable bus service and it's all very rural around. Winslow is another small town just down the road you might look at. If the east/west rail link goes ahead which is likely I think its station will be reopened. Lots of nice villages around but the smaller you go the less facilities you get. This area is one of the few that still have the 11plus system and grammar schools.

There are lots of small villages with good primary schools near Buckingham. Look at Chackmore, Thornton, Swanbourne, Thornborough and Winslow, most have decent primaries. Winslow is getting a railway station in 2023/4. But if you’re considering the grammar school in Buckingham be careful of catchment, which is small. There is a new state secondary school in Winslow but I’m not sure what their results are like. If you’re considering private there are plenty of options nearby, ranging from £15k to £30k+ a year. Something else you might want to consider is what happens with HS2 and the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway with associated development. Both projects affect this area, no-one currently knows if either project will go ahead, a new government may change things, but it's something to bear in mind.
