Making friends

We moved to a large village last year. There are families here, but there are also lots of older people (like lots of villages), and we don't have a huge amount of 'young people' facilities, although the nearest town does.

With children above baby age (so not going to rhyme times and baby groups) how do you make friends?

What groups, classes, etc have people joined and got to know others?

Try the local church they are very welcoming and tend to have lots of baby groups I'm new to a village area and we actually have a HV clinic baby weighing clinic/stay and play and everyone seems very friendly x

Friends for yourself? When I moved to a new area with my 5 and 7 year old on my own I met people through the school. I volunteered to work in the uniform shop, accompanied my kids to sports fixtures and talked to people when picking up from school and clubs. I asked people to meet up for coffee! Some times it developed into friendship sometimes not.
If yours are preschool then it will be harder, but sometimes you have to fake it to make it. You may not be a joiner but if there are community activities (Christmas fair? Harvest festival? Church group? Local charity?) get involved. Put yourself out there. Invite people over. Not everyone will reciprocate but some will.
