The prospect of leaving London for Chester

We're a mixed race family originally from York moved to London almost 6 years ago and then fell pregnant with our LG towards the last yr of both our degrees needless to stay that little surprise dwindled any chances of ever being able to save up (even then it would be a box) and enjoy the London life a little longer. Trouble is as much as I'd like more space and to eventually own my own home I am terrified at the prospect of leaving London and all it has to offer. i never intended to stay in London beyond my degree but it quickly became home.. I grew up in York where I was pretty much the only person of colour in class and now with a mixed child I love that most people around us even at her nursery are from all over the world. I guess my question is has anyone left London not wanting to but having to for a better quality of life and if so how did you make up for it ? is there much culture and diversity around Chester i.e there is so much for children to do in London and honestly the cost is whats driving us out. Sorry in advance I'm asking a lot.

You might want to ask MNHQ to move this into _Chat - Chester isn't exactly rural

Chester’s a city. A small city but still not rural. It’s multicultural. Not as much as London but I doubt you’ll stick out like a sore thumb

Chester is similar to York I guess. There is a university and some diversity but not as much as in London.
That said all my DC have friends who are of mixed heritage.
In terms of culture I think you would be pleasantly surprised, there is loads to do. Lots of opportunities if your kids are musical or into theatre and lots of sporting events to, horse racing, regattas, rugby, football.
Manc and liverpool easily accessible on train for concerts.
