Moving to Hertfordshire

We are thinking of moving from NW London to Hertfordshire but don't know where to start looking. The area we currently live in is fairly busy traffic wise, crazy with school traffic and we fancy somewhere further out away from the craziness of London. My DH works in London so good transport links into central London, but a nice peaceful village atmosphere is ideal for the new house. But on the other hand we don't want to feel isolated as we are very sociable and would still want access to shops etc within a 10min drive. Kids are teenagers who weekly board so quite flexible on location. Happy with a small market town kind of place with village green, pub, a few shops etc. Any suggestions of where we could start looking? TIA

I'm half considering St Albans but so is everyone else! Sorry that's not very helpful

Bayford or Brickendon (On train line straight to central and very beautiful); a 10 minute drive to Hertford and 15 minutes to Welwyn Garden City

Ashwell near Royston would meet all your requirements. Or some of the other pretty villages near Royston e.g. Barley and Barkway.

Hitchin, Letchworth or Ashwell? Ashwell is perhaps quieter than you might like, but it is pretty.

Interesting, find ourselves in similar position! Wondering where you chose in the end? 😊

Letchworth is lovely, it would be my 1st choice.

Thanks for the Letchworth suggestion - we haven't looked at that area yet. Some of the smaller villages mentioned above look so perfect, but there are very few houses coming on the market in them. We've also got to sell our house too ... which is probably more difficult now with the Brexit uncertainty than trying to find a new house!

Berkamsted. Train goes through to Euston.

Ware, Hertford or Bishoos Stortford And surrounding villages

Broxbourne, straight train to Liverpool street.

Tring or Berkhamsted, both beautiful little towns with enough shops to keep life easy, but enough local countryside to feel like you've made a proper move out of the city. Nice restaurants and child friendly activities. 30 mins on a train to Euston.

Tring, berkhampsted, hitchin and harpenden are all nice towns with direct train routes to London. (Not sure how teenage-friendly they all are) Tring and berkhampsted are really close to ashridge forest which is beautiful.
