Relocating Dorset or Cumbria or somewhere else

So me and my husband want to relocate away from Berkshire. We have been in love with Dorset for many years and still unsure if it's the right place to move to. We also love the lake district but is it too isolated for us and my 8 year old. We need somewhere that still has nice shopping and things to do for my daughter as she gets older. Anyone relocated or even just live in these areas that can give me some experience?

If the Lake District and its swarming piles of humans is too isolated for you, you may not be cut out for rural life! We've given up going there as it's too busy.

Plenty of good shopping and quiet areas around the lakes - loads to do an only 2.5 hours from cenrtal london...

I from The Lakes and live down South, I'd give anything to go back up I think of what our house is worth down here and what we could get up there it's crazy. The South Lakes has great links to places I used to commute to London weekly which took 2.45 hours from Oxenholme.
We often would have nights in Manchester which was less than 1.5hr drive away.
If you still want to be close to the M6 and Oxenholme station then around Kendal is a good place to look at.

Lots of places east side of Cumbria that are easy accessible to bigger cities via west coast mainline... I live east of the county and can be in Newcastle in an hour, Glasgow in 2 hours, London and Birmingham trains direct too. I love living here
