Skipton vs Ilkley (moving from Oz)

Hi all, my family are moving from Oz to the UK to be with my DHs parents who live in Skipton. Kids are 5 and 7. We are tossing up between living in Skipton where in-laws are, and Ilkley. I will need to go into Leeds two - three times a week and to London once or twice a month for work. I know that both are lovely towns, I'm just wondering if one suits younger families better? Or are they much of a muchness? What do you love about the town? Dislike? We will be renting, not buying if that makes a difference. Thank you for any information!

Hey! I live in Skipton. I would say they are both nice yea.. Ilkley is probably posher and maybe more expensive!
Although i love skipton, if we had a higher budget to rent and other things I would probably live in Ilkley.. it is nicer and has the moor, river and park and ilkley lido! Saying that.. they are so close so can do things in both places anyway!

Another thing i think there is a direct train to london from skipton each morning, but ilkley is probably closer to leeds.

Dont know it that helped or was just a ramble lol. But good luck! Wherever you choose it is beautiful around here so you should enjoy :)

Another Skiptoner here! Both have direct and regular trains to Leeds but Ilkley is a shorter drive. I think it comes down to budget - Ilkley is a lot more expensive and as PP said much posher. Skipton is cheaper but still lovely and also has a great bus station that’ll take you to Leeds, Manchester and even London on the coach. Also a daily train to London cery early in the morning.
