I am looking to move to Wokingham maybe Woosehill? Does anyone know the area and if it’s nice. Also Emmbrook? Any areas to avoid?
Thanks

Do you live locally now? I’d drive round a few times and get a gauge of how truly horrendous the traffic situation is before making a decision. I moved out of the town due to the sheer hell of it and every time I visit my parents I thank my lucky stars I don’t have to put up with it any longer

LadyPeacock · 15/06/2018 20:14

You surely don't think Wokingham is rural??

SoyDora · 15/06/2018 20:15

It really, really isn’t rural.

BerkshireHunter · 15/06/2018 21:03

Hi op.

Woosehill is a massive housing estate built in the late 80s. It's a very typical estate of its time.

Wokingham town centre is an absolute bastard for traffic. The improvements seem to have been going on for years

There is loads of building on the outskirts of town

Without wishing to sound too DM the medical services are waaaaayyyyy stretched.

Definitely not rural. Look to Finchsmpstead, eversley way for quieter places to live.

Sorry, this is probably the wrong thread to have asked this question. Altho compared to where I live in London, Wokingham will feel rural to me 😊
Thanks for the feedback. The traffic is bad where I am so can’t imagine it being worse but you never know. I will definitely look into finchampstead.
Thanks all

West Berkshire is lovely (not rural either, but there are bits that feel like 'the countryside').

Maybe have a look at the villages between J12 and J13 of the M4 and the Pangbourne area.

We moved recently from Wokingham. Please do not underestimate just how bad traffic is, I was shocked and have also lived in London. A 5 minute car journey regularly could take 45 minutes it was ridiculous. It's a nice area but in no way rural. Finchampstead is very pretty and a bit more leafy and if you drive around there are a few pretty little villages dotted around nearby but have no idea what they are called sorry! Best to go for a visit and explore the area to see what you think.

I'm between burghfield and Mortimer. Just off m4. Mortimer has it's own station. Both on regular bus routes to reading. All local schools are good or higher rates. Lots of community spirit seen in villages. Bughfield common larger and more modern and has high school and gym/swimming pool. Come join me Grin

Thanks everyone for your comments.

We are currently in Ruislip but looking to move out of the area. Now have a 4 month old baby.

Moving to a different area is very daunting.

Wokingham seemed like a good location as was still close proximity to our friends in surrounding areas. I’m stuck between wanting a quiet area without being too far away from a town but also don’t want to be too isolated. I’ve always lived right in the heart of a town so would be a big change for me.

@reginaOcarina thanks for heads up re traffic. The traffic in Ruislip is horrendous sometimes. Are there any particular roads that get busy or just close to the centre.

I think at the moment I am an estate agents worst nightmare. 😊

It's the town centre. It's always been bad but there has been months (years??) of works that has meant ++ road closures and diversions.

You'd hope it would improve but it's awful Sad

liquidrevolution · 16/06/2018 15:59

Bizarrely I grew up near ruislip!

Kimkalee · 02/08/2018 00:05

Hi everyone,
We are also moving from Ruislip... thinking about Wokingham. I don’t know anything about the place... but we need good school for our 6 years old boy. Any recommendations about schools?
Thank you in advance!
