I live in deepest Dorset and have been offered a fantastic job which I would lvoe to take - but it's in North Wales!
Relocating with my family in tow is obviously a massive deal. We would like to still be rural and obviously there are lots of beautiful villages that way.
Can anyone recommend any small towns / villages in between Chester and Wrexham? Or warn me off any of them? I think we will spend a weekend up in the area and have a good rive around so would love to know any areas to aim for.

Also - benefits to living over the Welsh border? Free prescriptons?

I'm currently living in Farndon which is just inside England and a beautiful part of the country, nice village school, nursery, couple of pubs, community centre, butchers, post office, coffee shop etc etc. Holt is the other side of the river (in Wales) and is also lovely and has a couple of shops, hairdressers etc and a good Indian restaurant. I would definitely recommend either village.

Thank you, that's really good to know. I'm going to google earth my way around them now!

check the language used at possible schools. healthcare is an issue, wrexham has an a and e but everyone depends on threatened Shrewsbury which tells you how bad wrexham maelor must be.

stay in england. check commute, altitude, direction facing etc. microclimate really matters in this area.

and dont tell too many people , we dont want the area getting too crowded!

I'm from this area. Rossett and Gresford are lovely as long as you're working in Wales and not commuting to Chester every day as the traffic is rubbish. Great primary schools in both. Can't comment on secondaries.

Or if you want to have a look nearer Wrexham try Overton, Ellesmere, Bangor on Dee and thereabouts. All pretty, rural villages with a bit of life.

Yes Farndon is lovely. I used to work in Chester and colleagues said Gresford was nice.
