Background: first time buyer looking to solo buy a house. Always lived in cities with main gas. Due to budget am looking at small villages outside of the city in question.
I have found a lovely small 3 bed detached house in a small village. It's part of an estate built in the early 2000s. The house runs on LPG which I understand comes from a large communal tank on the estate that Flogas fill up with a tanker every week or something. Each house has its own meter and is billed for usage.
I've asked the owner who didn't give much info about how much their gas bill is and no info on unit costs. My research of LPG suggests it is generally much more expensive than mains gas and off grid oil. The market is quite secretive and there are no published price lists. I've seen websites recommending how people with their own personal storage tank and can negotiate good contracts every 2 years but I don't think this is so relevant to a communal supply?
Wary of buying a house to find myself paying £2k a year for heating and hot water.
My questions:
Anyone have experience of a communal supply of LPG? Does the company price gouge the whole community? I suppose because the community supplier can not easily be changed you are just stuck with the price?
If anyone has examples of the price they are paying per litre - whether via your own tank or a communal supply - that would be appreciated too.
