Ripon North Yorkshire

I am looking for some advice on the Ripon area. We are currently living in the US but it looks like we will be returning to the UK in 2019. We used to live in the south east but would like to live somewhere different when we return. Having researched many areas, I really like the look of Ripon or surrounding villages. Schools are important as my children will be 6 and 8 when we return, is there any primary schools that really stand out? Any insight into this area would be much appreciated.

Primaries are one thing but you need to be looking ahead to secondary.Ripon Grammar is of course very popular and the top performing state school in the north of England, St Aidans also has as an excellent reputation.
The 'Ripon rural' primaries are nearly all 'outstanding' and beat the Ripon town schools on just about every measure. If you are going for a village make sure you pick one in the catchment for Ripon Grammar.

I spent a lot of my childhood holidays in Ripon and would love to live there. It's such a beautiful area. Not helpful really but I would move there in a heartbeat!

Thank you both for replying, it is great to hear that it is a beautiful area, we have never been to Yorkshire and we are excited to explore a new area.

I have been doing some research into secondary schools too, is there any you would think are best avoided?

We live very close by. 5plus is right about primaries, the villages are generally better schools. RGS is a great school. The academy on the opposite side of the road is also an outstanding school.

Nidderdale High and Boroughbridge High are nearby and very good.

St Aidans, John Fisher and Harrogate Grammar (now a non selective academy) are also good schools. If I was aiming for anything other than a Ripon secondary school I wouldn't live in Ripon tbh. The bus to Nidderdale takes 45 mins on a normal run and the school day is long enough.

Childhood holidays for me too. No advice, but if I had the opportunity I'd love to live in the area.

Thank you for all the helpful information on schools. We have a lot to think about as we really want to get this move right. We have moved a lot in the last few years and would love to settle somewhere and make it a long term home.
