Bird keeps coming into house-help!

Twice now I have found a wee brown bird (sparrow, I think?) flapping inside the house. I can find no trace of how it is getting in, and would like to stop him coming in. He goes easily enough the window to leave when I guide him out, so it's not much of an issue removing him, but he makes a mess and a lot of noise-he sounds distressed.
Has anyone had this before, and how were they getting in/how did you stop it?
The first time there was a window open that he may have got in, but I think it was unlikely that he got in there, as I was nearby and would have heard it.
This morning I was woken by a crashing and banging, and found him again. No windows open, and all apart from the skylight were covered with a curtain. All doors closed too. Skylight also appears closed, but this was the window he was flapping at.
Thanks for any help.

Chimney?

notsureifimbeingur · 10/08/2017 07:45

We have a chimney but it's got a stove at the bottom and the stove door was closed off. All the top of the stove area is sealed off too. Thanks for your reply.

Do you have a cat?

No, we don't have a cat, we have two canaries in a cage, and it wouldn't be safe for them to have a cat nearby!

It's just so odd that we can't work out where it's getting in!
