My husband, toddler and I currently rent in Edinburgh city centre but we have number 2 in the way and want to buy a house before the arrival. I am keen to move somewhere where we can get more house for our money so eovering if anyone can recommend a town or village close to Edinburgh?

Would need good transport links to the city, good local amenities and community links and if would be great to be seaside or in a pretty rural setting! Cafes/restaurants are a major bonus for us

Would love to hear your views on good family locations!

Hi I'm in Edinburgh. Just moved outside of city with DH and 17 month old. We live in a suburb to the South called Eskbank, in Dalkeith, 7 miles outside city. It's not cheap mind you but the other side of Dalkeith is. Sounds like East Lothian might be a good place though? Close to sea, train and bus links. My mum is in a new build in Prestonpans and it works really well for her.
